Youth support group to relaunch to help teens and reduce anti-social behaviour

A SAFE space for youths is relaunching in Winsford to help the town's teenagers with activities and support while reducing anti-social behaviour. Brio Leisure is restarting the Friday Night Youth Zone at the Winsford Lifestyle Centre next month. From September 2, sessions aimed at supporting 11 to 18-year-olds will run each Friday for a one-year period.

During the sessions, which run from 7pm to 9pm, youths will be able to enjoy activities including gym access, multi-sports, Brio Arcade interactive games wall and arts and crafts. As well as activities, they will have access to further support for drug and alcohol awareness, sexual health, financial worries and budgeting, online safety, bullying, first aid and CV work aimed at helping young people get ready for the workplace. Julie Kirkham, facility manager at Winsford Lifestyle Centre, said: "We are really excited to have been awarded this money to allow us to restart the youth zone on a Friday evening, as this was previously very successful.

"We are looking forward to working with local partners to provide a safe environment for local teenagers to take part in activities and help them grow in confidence and learn new skills." The relaunch of the youth zone comes after Brio Leisure was awarded funding from the Care Community Innovation Fund via the Cheshire West Integrated Care Partnership to deliver a number of activities to support under-represented groups within the borough. During the year, the youth zone team will be looking at ways to make the venture sustainable without additional funding.

The Friday Night Youth Zone also aims to support the mental wellbeing of local teenagers and to encourage and explore the options for employment and training all whilst reducing the antisocial behaviours around the Winsford area. The project is part of a partnership between New Images Youth and Community Centre, Cheshire Police, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Work Zone and Cheshire Change Hub. Anyone who would like to take part just needs to visit Winsford Lifestyle Centre to complete a leisure card application form to sign in and enjoy each session.
