Stolen car crashes on A13 after being pursued by police

A stolen car being chased by police on the A13 in Essex crashed to bring the pursuit to an end. On a busy night for Essex Police, officers from the county's road policing unit and dog units pursued the stolen Volkswagen as it was driven along the A13. When the car crashed, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.

The chase came only 20 minutes after police stopped a Mercedes in Tilbury and made an arrest on suspicion of theft of a Range Rover, which went missing from Grays a few hours prior. Read more: Canvey Island fire causes massive smoke cloud[1] Earlier this month, the Essex Police Stolen Vehicle Intelligence Unit received international recognition for its "outstanding contribution in the fight against vehicle crime".

PC Paul Gerrish and PC Phil Pentelow were presented with awards by the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators.

Essex Police has been running a Summer Safer Roads Essex campaign to make the county's roads safer.

With summer a busy time on the roads, the force says it needs drivers to make positive decisions to improve their driving ability and encourage others to do the same.
