Man found in River Witham is named by police

A man found in the River Witham last week[1] has been named by police as an investigation into the death continues. Formal identification is yet to take place, but Lincolnshire Police says it believes the victim to be Igors Petrovs, 45. Two men, aged 41 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A woman, 45, has been arrested for conspiracy to commit murder, with all three remaining in police custody. Lincolnshire Police[2] is continuing with its murder investigation and is urging anyone who may have seen anything, or have any information, to come forward. The force said: "We continue to investigate the murder of a man[3] following the recovery of a body from the River Witham at Waterside North on 24 August.

The victim is believed to be 45-year-old Igors Petrovs, although formal identification is yet to take place.

"We are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have information in relation to the death. Police are particularly keen to hear from any motorists who were driving along Waterside North[5] at around 0030 hrs Sunday 21 August who may have witnessed the incident. "We are appealing for any CCTV or dashcam footage that may be of interest to our investigation.

Two men, aged 41 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman, aged 45 years, has been arrested for conspiracy to commit murder - all three remain in custody." The body of what is believed to be Mr Petrov was discovered on August 24, after it was believed he entered the water in the early hours of Sunday 21 August. It was confirmed that the death was being treated as a murder investigation on Saturday, August 27.
